What's New in this Release

This release adds no new features over the 2016-01-07 release. It addresses enforcement of field-level access control.

Background Information

The Explore Analytics Scripted Web Service implements the data-access integration between Explore Analytics and ServiceNow. Because it is implemented in Script and ServiceNow scripts are not automatically subject to access control verification, it is left to the script to implement access control checks.

Field-Level Access Control

This release adds run-time (query-time) checks for field-level access. This is in addition to the existing run-time table-level and row-level access checks.

How to Upgrade

If you have both a test and a production data source, you'll need to repeat these steps for each instance used with Explore Analytics. It's probably a good idea to apply to to the test environment first.

Download the Explore Analytics Update Set by following these steps:

  • In the Explore Analytics user interface, select "Add a new data source" from the "Data" menu
  • Select "ServiceNow"
  • In the dialog, you'll find a link to download the latest update set (XML file)

Once you have the update set XML file, apply it to your ServiceNow instance (or instances) that use Explore Analytics. The steps for applying an update set to ServiceNow are documents by ServiceNow. The generally follow along these lines:

  • Login to your ServiceNow instance
  • Go to System Update Sets | Retrieved Update Sets
  • Below the list of update sets you'll find a link to "Import Update Set from XML"
  • Upload the update set XML file that you got from Explore Analytics
  • Preview the Update Set
  • Commit the Update Set

Supported Releases

The update set supports the Dublin, Eureka, Fuji, and Geneva releases of ServiceNow. Support for additional releases may be added as these releases become available.
