Overview

Cloning a view makes a complete copy of the view and gives it a new name. After you make the copy, the original view remains intact and the newly created view is displayed. You now have two views and changing any one of them does not affect the other.

There are many times when making a copy is useful, especially because any changes that you make to a view are automatically saved:

  • if you want to make exploratory changes to a view without changing it, make a copy of it first and make the changes to the new view leaving the original intact. This is especially useful for shared views
  • if you want to create a new view that's similar in many ways to an existing view, then make a copy of the view and save time
  • if you want an editable copy of a published view, you can make a copy of the published view and the copy is editable

Making a Copy of a View

  1. display the view to be copied by selecting it in your Favorites, "My Views", or "Shared Views"
  2. select "Make a copy" from the File menu
  3. give the new view a name
  4. by default, the new view will be added to Favorites. You can un-check that option if you don't like that to happen
  5. click OK

The new view is now displayed.
