Overview

Cloning a view makes a complete copy of the view and gives it a new name. After you perform a clone, the original view remains intact and the newly created view is displayed. You now have two views and changing any one of them does not affect the other.

There are many times when cloning is useful, especially because any changes that you make to a view are automatically saved:

  • if you want to make exploratory changes to a view without changing it, clone it first and make the changes to the new view leaving the original intact. This is especially useful for shared views
  • if you want to create a new view that's similar in many ways to an existing view, then clone the view and save time

On the other hand, you can also create a new view "from scratch" by Creating a New View.

Cloning a View

  1. display the view to be cloned by selecting it in your Favorites, "My Views", or "Shared Views"
  2. click the Clone button
  3. give the new view a name
  4. by default, the new view will be added to Favorites. You can uncheck that option if you don't like that to happen
  5. click OK

The new view is now displayed.
