Introduction
The Explore Analytics Agent is an optional piece of software that you can install on a computer with connectivity to your database. The Agent is used for access to data that resides in your organization's private network and cannot be accessed directly from the cloud.
How does the Explore Agent work?
The Agent connects to the Explore Analytics server over a secure web connection (HTTPS) and awaits requests for data. When a request is made, it queries the database and sends the data to the Explore Analytics server.
This processing is completely transparent to the users who see immediate response while performing data exploration.
For the security of your database, the agent initiates a secure connection to the Explore Analytics website and only takes instructions from there.
Supported Databases
The Explore Analytics Agent currently supports Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, and Microsoft Access. If your database is accessible from the public Internet, then there's no need to install the Explore agent.
Installing the Agent
For Windows, Explore Analytics offers a fully automated installation. It installs the agent as a Windows Service that runs in the background. For installation instructions, see the page Installing the Explore Analytics Agent. If you need to run the agent on Linux or Mac OS, you can find instructions on the page Installing the Explore Analytics Agent on Linux.
For Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Access, the agent must be installed on Windows.
