Calculated Columns are pivot columns that display data that's computed based on other columns. When we say "columns", we refer to values of a [[Pivot#Column Area|column area]] fields in the pivot. For example, if we have the "Garden" and "Home" categories, we can define a new calculated column "Home and Garden" that adds the "Garden" column and the "Home" column. This is a very simple example, but you can calculate ratios, or any other arithmetic involving any columns in your pivot. Overview
Calculated Values and Calculated Columns allow you to compute and display new data based on data that's in your pivot table. While we describe these features in terms of the pivot view, please keep in mind that these features are equally available for chart views.
Calculated Values
Calculated Values are calculated value fields based on other value fields. When we say "value" fields, we refer to the fields that go in the value area of the pivot. These are described in detail in Calculated Values.
Calculated Columns
Calculated Columns are pivot columns that display data that's computed based on other columns. When we say "columns", we refer to values of a column area fields in the pivot. For example, if we have the "Garden" and "Home" categories, we can define a new calculated column "Home and Garden" that adds the "Garden" column and the "Home" column. This is a very simple example, but you can calculate ratios, or any other arithmetic involving any columns in your pivot. Calculated Columns are described in detail in Calculated Columns.
